Sex Therapy For Women + Couples
With Dr. Marisa T. Cohen, PhD, LMFT, CST
AASECT Certified Sex Therapist | Relationship Scientist
Sex is an important part of relationships, and one of the hardest to talk about.
As an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist trained through the University of Michigan's Sexual Health Certificate Program, I help individuals and couples understand what's happening and have a sex life that is fulfilling.
Are you wondering if what you're experiencing is normal?
Do you want something to change in your dating life, relationships, or intimacy, but aren't sure where to begin?
Do you struggle to talk to partners about your desires?
Whether you're struggling with desire, pain, intimacy, communication, or questions about your relationship structure/navigating ethical non-monogamy, you're not alone. Many people spend years believing they're the only ones experiencing these challenges.
You don't have to figure it out by yourself.
Clients Come To Me When They’re:
Feeling disconnected from your partner or struggling with intimacy
Experiencing differences in desire and sexual needs
Having difficulty communicating about sex, boundaries, or desires
Exploring their sexuality and understanding what feels fulfilling
Navigating changes in sexual connection over time
Opening their relationship or exploring ethical non-monogamy
Questioning their relationship structure, needs, or desires
“Sexual concerns are often connected to much more than sex itself.”
What Sex Therapy With Me Looks Like
I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Before we jump into solutions, I want to understand who you are, your relationships, your experiences, and your goals. If you’re not sure, that’s okay. We’ll chart a path together.
We'll begin by getting to know your experiences, relationship with sexuality, and what brings you here. Together, we'll explore what has shaped your journey, where you are today, and what you'd like to create moving forward.
For couples, I typically meet with each partner individually before bringing you together so I can understand each perspective as well as your shared goals.
Modalities I Use
-
Understand the science behind desire, pleasure, intimacy, and sexual response so you can replace confusion and shame with knowledge and confidence.
-
Explores how your early relationship experiences shape the way you connect, trust, and experience intimacy today, helping you create greater security and deeper connection in your relationships.
-
Understand patterns that affect intimacy and create stronger emotional and sexual connections.
-
Get practical tools for improving communication, managing conflict, and strengthening your partnership both inside and outside the bedroom.
“Throughout our work, I stay active in session. Clients often tell me our conversations feel approachable, collaborative, and productive because we're always moving toward meaningful change.”
Learn What Feels Good
As you better understand yourself and your relationships, intimacy becomes something you can approach with confidence instead of fear or uncertainty.

Less shame
Greater sexual confidence
Better communication
Clearer boundaries

Feeling like themselves again
About Dr. Marisa T. Cohen, PhD, LMFT, CST
My work brings together relationship science, sex therapy, and years of clinical experience helping individuals and couples create healthier relationships. Before becoming a therapist, I spent years researching relationships and teaching psychology at the college level. Today I continue that work through research, therapy, and consulting with leading dating and relationship platforms.
Clients often tell me I'm approachable, nonjudgmental, and actively involved throughout our sessions. I don't sit back and simply listen. Together, we'll understand what's happening, identify practical solutions, and keep moving toward your goals.
Outside the office, I enjoy wine tasting on Long Island's North Fork, spending time with my husband and young son, and keeping up with the latest relationship research. I also met my husband on a dating app, which gives me an appreciation for both the science and the real-life experience of building relationships.
Availability: I provide online therapy for clients throughout
New York, Connecticut, and Vermont.
